About Gnareun – Direct Sales & Flexible Production
From Media to Apparel: A Different Kind of Beginning
With a background in media, the founding team behind Gnareun has always been sensitive to stories, visuals, and the way people express themselves through clothing. But manufacturing – especially in fashion – was unfamiliar territory.
“How many yards of fabric does it take to make one shirt?” A question that seems simple turned into a series of trials and errors. Too much fabric ordered. Then too little. Finished shirts not fitting as intended. Each mistake helped the process take shape more clearly, aligning better with the practical flow and unexpected needs.
Through those early missteps, the current model started to form: selling directly through our website – no intermediaries – with the aim of being hands-on from fabric selection to product shipment.
The Model: Direct to Customer with In-House Production
Rather than relying on third-party platforms or retail chains, decided to go direct. That allows more flexibility in how work is organized and creates a closer link between the makers and those who wear the clothes.
Each item is prepared ahead of time – from fabric selection to cutting and printing – then stored in our warehouse. When an order comes in, everything is processed right where it’s made, without delays or dependency on outside parties.
Core Products: Ready-to-Wear & Custom Apparel
focus mainly on two types of products:
Ready-made Shirts and Sweatshirts
Designed seasonally using materials like cotton or fleece blends. The designs are typically clean and versatile – meant to be worn comfortably in various contexts. These are produced in advance and kept in stock.
Customization Services
Some customers come with special requests – personalized messages, unique graphics, or adjusted sizing.Â
In-House Production & Quality Control
Every step happens internally:
Fabric sourcing
Depending on the type of garment, work with trusted U.S. suppliers such as:
Dharma Trading Co. – natural untreated cotton for easy dye and print work.
Robert Kaufman Fabrics – wide range of interlock, jersey, and woven cotton.
Fabric is chosen based on texture, stretch, print compatibility, and garment purpose. Often, a test print is done before full production.
Cutting, sewing, and printing
Once the fabric arrives, all production is done in the same space. This includes both the sewing and the printing process, helping reduce miscommunication and allowing design edits to be made on the spot.
Final checks
Before packaging, every item goes through hand inspection. From seam balance to print alignment, even the smallest issues are adjusted.
Custom Orders: A More Personal Path
Request received – Customers can send their ideas via form or email.
Sketch & approval – A rough mockup is shared for review.
Production & shipment – Once the idea is clear, the team gets to work.
Processing time can vary, but often falls within 1–2 business days for simpler requests.
Shipping & Tracking
Carriers used: USPS, UPS, FedEx (depending on location and shipping speed)
Tracking: Sent automatically to your email when your order leaves the facility
Delivery: Around 5–6 business days for U.S. domestic shipments
Team & Creative Environment
The current crew includes people across design, production, warehouse, and support. The gnareun.com website is built for easy navigation – from ordering to customizing designs.
As grow, collaboration with design students has become more frequent. Their ideas often come raw – even awkward – but occasionally, something spontaneous catches attention. One reversed design draft became a customer favorite simply because it felt fresh and unintentional.
The workspace itself stays open and adaptable. Some ideas are tested just out of curiosity. Ironically, what starts as a mistake sometimes becomes the most memorable detail in a shirt’s entire journey.
